Melissa has a heart for teaching families how to use homeopathy and she has been in business for more than 20 years as a homeopath and lactation consultant. Her favorite remedy is Sepia because it's what uprooted anxiety, depression and hormone imbalances. She is a daughter of the King. Please welcome my friend, certified homeopath, Melissa Crenshaw.

Melissa Crenshaw:

Nice to be here. Thank you for having me.

Kari Wagner:

You're welcome. Let's get right to it and share the top five remedies for cold and flu season. Let's start with number five, what what is it?

Melissa Crenshaw:

Sounds good. So number five is definitely not the least favorite. It's just that there's so many and I had to stop somewhere. So it is actually one of my favorites. Gelsemium is the Yellow Jasmine in its whole form and I would use it in a 30c or a 200c potency. So she's holding up the 30th potency right there, that one would be just fine if that's what you have, if you have a 200, use that. And you can recognize the Gelsemium flu by the four Ds, the four Ds are Drowsy, Droopy, Dizzy and Dull, so drowsy like malaise, not just a little bit drowsy, but this person has malaise, and then droopy, you'll see the eyelids, so the eyelids will be really droopy, and you can tell that they don't feel good or that you don't feel good, and then dizzy. So you might actually be dizzy and trembling, with with weakness, and then dull so your mind is just dull, you're just apathetic, like you just don't care, you don't want to drink, you don't want to eat. And then a lot of times the Gelsemium flu has a headache right here in the front with some aching.

Kari Wagner:

That is awesome. Thank you so much for those tips. I know I'm going to have to watch the replay and write all of this down. That's such great info. And we are posting the names of these remedies in the comments. So you know exactly which ones we're talking about. Okay, moving on to number four.

Melissa Crenshaw:

Okay, number four is Oscillococcinum. That's a long word. Everybody's seen that. They run out of this on the shelves every year. Everybody runs for this one, because it's so widely known. It is actually duck heart and liver, wild duck heart and liver. This is a great remedy for the very first sign of a cold or flu. If you don't know what it is, you don't know what's happening, I would take that first and there is no need to take the whole tube. So in the box that she held up, the directions say to take a whole tube as a dose and you don't need to do that. You really just need 5 to 10 of the pellets. You can make that one box that she's holding up last for years depending on the size of your family. There are a lot of tubes in there, and there are probably over 100 little pellets in that one tube. So I would take this at the first sign of the classic signs of cold and flu.

Kari Wagner:

Perfect. I know this one has saved our family many times and like you said it can really last a long time. This box has 30 doses meaning 30 tubes, and we also have a smaller box with just 6 tubes in it as well. So okay, I hope everyone's taking notes. What's number three?

Melissa Crenshaw:

Okay, number three is ColdCalm also by Boiron. This is a mix of lots of great cold and, and flu remedies and it can even work for allergy symptoms because sometimes your allergies feel like a cold. This is taken as directed on the box at the very first sign so I believe the box says a dose every 15 minutes for an hour; do that. Absolutely do that. The little pellets dissolve in you mouth really fast. So, agai, you would just take that when ou don't know what to do or ta e it the first night of a cold r flu.

Kari Wagner:

Perfect. I know we always have at least two boxes of this at our house just because we're a family of five and you know if one person starting after the other with the symptoms, we want to make sure we've got enough to go around. The box includes three of these sheets. This is my personal one so you can see we've used it and then I can even maybe just send a sheet with a family member if they're going somewhere just so that if they start the symptoms wherever they are, they can start this remedy at the onset. So that's perfect. Okay, tell us about the number two remedy for colds and

Melissa Crenshaw:

Okay, number two is a big one and this is flu. Ferrum Phos and that is iron phosphate. So we want to get Yes, I know, ColdCalm and Ferrum Phos helped my youngest daughter Ferrum Phos in a 3x or 6x, but you can also use it in a 30c or 200c. It's useful in all of all those different potencies but Ferrum Phos you're going to think of it first for inflammation and a fever. If there's a fever present Ferrum Phos is going to be awesome for that. Any kind of GI ailments, so any kind of stomach problems that you're having or respiratory infections. Ferrum Phos is worse with cold and better for heat and movement so that means this person does not want to get chilly or cold they want to be covered up, wrapped u, or they can even change what k nd of drinks they like to dr nk so maybe she wants a warm dr nk and not a cold drink. She fee s better with a warm drink and he might feel better moving o that you know Ferrum Phos wil work in this case. quickly fight off a cold recently. So these will always be in our medicine cabinet for sure. And the number one remedy for cold and flu season is what? Number one is a mixture of two remedies together, Aconite 200 Yes, and I have to agree with that. I mean, that's our go-to and Bryonia 30 or 200 mix d together, that means taken at he same time in the mouth. So ou will see Aconitum napel us written on the bottle and n the books and if you hea somebody say Aconite, that' just short for for Aconitu napellus. Aconite is m nkshood and Bryonia is wild ops and the symptoms of A onite are, and this is a rhyme hat I made up, "First, fast, fear, fright. That's when we cal on Aconite." You can add Fev r, Frozen, and Flu to those al those Fs to help you remember A onite. Those are the main s mptoms of Aconite. Then whe you combine that with Bryonia 0 or 200 it's such an amazing dy amic duo, if you will, for th first sign of a cold or flu. Wh n I say first under Aconi e, that means in the first 48 hours, so take it first, take it in the beginning. Bryonia has t e dry cough with pain. It' great for flu, it's great for w en the person is thirsty, the person may have a headache. B yonia is worse for movement s they want to be really still nd they're better for pre sure, better if they're left lone. So you might want to uddle or talk to or hold you child and they're like, "Le ve me alone!" Think of Bryonia. They're also worse for warmth o they don't want the warm d inks and they don't want the b ankets. They want to be uncover d, but also a warm room might cause them to start coughing unc ntrollably. I think we've all be n there. You know, I see that s often where you get warm and th n you start coughing. So those are Aconite/Bryonia. You mix t em together. You take them both at the same time in the mouth, nd it's a wonderful, wonderful umber one cold and flu remedy. if anybody starts feeling something's happening in the chest or something's just not right, we immediately go to Aconite/Bryonia and it wipes it away. A lot of times we don't even have to deal with something that I know would have been much worse if we didn't do that. So thank you for sharing that. So I have to ask because I know this would be a bonus for our viewers since this is sort of off topic but I know that stomach bugs are a horrible thing to go through and many times it goes through the whole family. What would you say the first remedy is that comes to your mind to have on hand for a stomach bug Arsenicum album! Absolutely you want to have this if you're if your family is prone to or usually gets a stomach bug once a year. Definitely own Arsenicum album in a 30 or 200 and Arsenicum has burning so it can be burning when it's coming out or it can be burning up high and then it's great for vomiting and or diarrhea. So even if you're just having one or the other it's great for food poisoning. And is it is just number one in my family. It's the one remedy I think that I would not ever want to be without it.

Kari Wagner:

I know this is also off topic but it's even helped with skin conditions in our family.

Melissa Crenshaw:

Yeah, it sure does.

Kari Wagner:

It's amazing. Well thank you for all those quick tips. We love that. I know people that are watching are busy. We wanted to give them quick tips today. Everything you mentioned is our staple products in our medicine cabinet at home. And we are hoping that Melissa will join us again in the future because these are just quick, you know, excellent tips for all of us. I know we're just about out of time. But I wanted to ask you, Melissa, if you have a minute, we've just added influenzinum to our product line at Taproots. And I wanted to ask if you believe in taking a medicine like this as a prophylactic during flu season.

Melissa Crenshaw:

That's so good. Yes, that's a great one as a prophylactic. So the remedies that we just talked about, you would take at the first signs and symptoms of a cold or flu but Influinzinum and Thuja are both great for prophylactic use to help you to possibly not get the flu, and so yes, I absolutely would do that. So influenzinum, you have to get it fresh every year because it's made from the current flu strain and when you buy it from Boiron, they'll send you instructions on how to take it propylactically. So if you don't have that information, I can maybe share it with Kari later and she can share it because that's what I did this year, I actually got the instructions straight from Boiron, they're sending me my tube and my family is going to do that this year. I also suggest or I like the Thuja protocol for prophylactic, and I have this Viruses Guide that I can share with you for free. I think Kari is going to post the link, and it's on my website. So I'd be happy for you just to grab that free Viruses Guide and it has the protocol in there, too, to take a prophylactic whether you choose influenzinum, or Thuja, or others, there's some other ways to do it too.

Kari Wagner:

Perfect. Yes, we will post the link to your free Viruses Guide in the comments here. And then we will also send that out in an email to all of our website subscribers. So if you haven't yet subscribed to our website and enter your email address, and we'll be sure to send that out to you. You can also find it on Melissa's website, we will be posting all of her information. If you're watching today, and you've never even heard of homeopathy. Melissa teaches beginner classes called Gateway to Homeopathy and I took her class and it was phenomenal. You'll learn so much. You'll get free protocols during the class and everything. We will post all of that information in the comments below. If you'd like to learn more, Melissa can also help people find the exact remedies that they need in the right potencies for acute and chronic conditions. So Melissa, when should somebody contact a homeopath instead of choosing a remedy on their own?

Melissa Crenshaw:

So I would say for any chronic condition unless you have experience using homeopathy, contact and homeopath, or if you get into the acute, and you're just not having any good success, I can help you with an acute consult. They're inexpensive and includes five days of text support to help walk you through that acute condition. And so that information, I believe, is on my website. But yes, an acute condition that you're having trouble with, or any chronic condition.

Kari Wagner:

Yes, thank you. And I know they're very affordable. We've had those consultations with her as well. So thank you. Wouldn't you guys love to have Melissa back? I would love for you to tell us in the comments what you'd love to learn more about. I mean, we have people coming into Taproots every day looking for natural remedies for depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, UTI, migraines, cramps, eczema, I mean you name it, and people are asking for it. So we'd love to know what is at the top of your list. What would you like to hear more about? And we will be that will be at the top of our list. Or if you have a questions, leave it in the comments for us. But thank Melissa for her time we thank you Melissa. Remember guys, to our viewers that you get entries into our prize drawing just for liking, commenting and sharing this video and the prize winner will receive a private message from Taproots.
