Of course there are many more remedies that can target anxiety or depression than what we will discuss tonight, however, I will say that we will be asking Melissa about some of the most common remedies to use for these conditions along with one of the most common questions that we get at Taproots, all the time. So our mission at Taproots is to empower, equip, and educate people to eliminate physical, mental, and emotional pain naturally so thanks for joining us today. A quick disclaimer that the information we're bringing you today is for education purposes only. It should not replace the advice of your medical doctor and we're not suggesting that you stop any prescription medications that you're currently taking. Remember that homeopathy is a natural medicine that is a system all its own. It's not essential oils supplements, or vitamins. Be sure to like, comment and share this video to spread the word about these natural remedies. Our special guest, Melissa Crenshaw, has a heart for teaching families how to use homeopathy. She's been in the business for more than 20 years as a homeopath and a lactation consultant. Her favorite remedy is Sepia because it's what uprooted anxiety, depression, and hormone imbalances. So please welcome back my Sister in Christ and certified homeopath, Melissa Crenshaw. Welcome Melissa, thanks for being with us.

Melissa Crenshaw:

Thank you, Kari, it's so nice to be here again. Thank you for having me back.

Kari Wagner:

Absolutely. We're so excited and I know this is a tough subject to cover in such a short amount of time but I know that our customers are excited to learn bits and pieces as you share your knowledge and experience so generously with us so thank you. I want to start with the most common question we hear in regards to anxiety at Taproots. What would you say the best remedy is for a person who can't fall asleep at night because they can't shut their mind off or they have trouble staying asleep because of their restless mind?

Melissa Crenshaw:

Gosh, that's so common, isn't it? I hear that so often too because of the world we live in. There are so many things to think about and so many things that we're looking at and and thinking about so Coffea cruda is a great remedy for when you're having trouble sleeping, in either a 30th or 200th potency, especially when you can't stop thinking, you can't stop your mind, you can't shut it down. When all of the thoughts are coming and and you can't fall asleep, or if you wake up in the middle of the night, and you can't go back to sleep because of all the thoughts then Coffea cruda 30c or 200c is going to be a great choice.

Kari Wagner:

Okay. I can say this is definitely a top seller in our shop and we're constantly reordering it, and hearing wonderful feedback from our customers on how much better they're sleeping because of it. Some of the people report a gradual improvement, while others might see quick results so, should they notice a difference that first night that they take Coffea cruda?

Melissa Crenshaw:

They could. Some people could notice a difference on the first night and if this is an acute sleep problem, meaning this is brand new, you usually don't have trouble sleeping, but for whatever reason maybe there's a new stressor in your life, causing you not to be able to sleep, then that's acute. It's a new thing. Then I would give four doses before deciding if it's the right one or not. Four doses could be every 15 minutes if it's very severe or every hour if it's not very severe. A chronic sleep condition is where this is happening every night or many times throughout the week or even many times throughout the month. This has been happening for more than three or four weeks and it's chronic. Then you need to try this every night for at least eight weeks before deciding if it's the right remedy for you, because there are others.

Kari Wagner:

So would someone take this remedy just at night or should they take it morning and night?

Melissa Crenshaw:

You could take it morning and night. I usually suggest taking it just at night and see if that helps and then if it's not helping in a week or two, if you don't see any difference at all, then try it twice a day at that point.

Kari Wagner:

Okay. And if this is a person that took it before they went to bed and then they do wake up in the middle of the night, would they take another dose at that point?

Melissa Crenshaw:

Sure can.

Kari Wagner:

Alright, great. Well let's switch gears. I would like to ask how about a mother that might be suffering from postpartum depression?

Melissa Crenshaw:

Yeah so postpartum depression may call for Sepia 200 and is a good place to start. Sepia is great for moms who just had a baby and the hormones are changing and this is a new onset depression. After she had a baby, this mom is just tired and not just because you have a new baby but you're trying to take care of everybody in the family and there may be a little bit of resentment that you feel. The mom may feel indifferent towards her family, or even reject the new baby or reject the family, and you should just know if this is you or you know someone like this, you're not alone. I hear this often and it's a hormone imbalance and Sepia is wonderful at balancing those hormones, especially when it accompanies those kinds of symptoms.

Kari Wagner:

Okay. And how often would someone take this remedy or is that something they need to discuss with a homeopath?

Melissa Crenshaw:

You could certainly safely try Sepia 200 once a week, or even twice a day or anywhere in between there so what I usually do with people is start out with once a week and if you're not seeing some improvement in a few weeks, then maybe up it to once a day. I know that I'm really sensitive and I just don't need remedies as often as some people do so because I'm really sensiti e, I can just take it once a week and it works beautifully fo me. Like you said, Kari that's the remedy that upro ted anxiety for me 20 ye rs ago so it's a beautiful re edy especially for women.

Kari Wagner:

I love that. Sepia is one of my favorites. It's uprooted a terrible headache that I used to get every month so, I love that. I want to jump back because you mentioned acute and chronic so can you talk a little bit more about acute anxiety versus chronic?

Melissa Crenshaw:

Yeah so acute anxiety would be more like the anticipatory anxiety where you've got fear before you go to the dentist or you are afraid before a presentation. So that's something that's situational and then chronic anxiety is something you've been struggling with very often, whether daily or several times a week, for at least a month Sepia is great for both.

Kari Wagner:

Okay, and let's talk a little bit about PTSD. What are some safe and effective options for this?

Melissa Crenshaw:

PTSD. Ignatia 200 is the queen of emotional remedies and PTSD is greatly helped with Ignatia 200. Ignatia is for worry, fear, anxiety, and/or depression, and it helps me to sleep. I don't take it for sleep like what we're talking about with Coffea cruda, but it just happens to also help me sleep. If you take it at night before you go to bed, then you'll likely sleep really well and so again with Ignatia 200 it could be that you just need it night before you go to bed or it could be that you take it twice a day so it's about every 12 hours.

Kari Wagner:

Okay. Another one of my favorites. I can't live without Ignatia.

Melissa Crenshaw:

I love it too.

Kari Wagner:

I love it. Okay. All right, so Ignatia and Sepia are both great options for chronic situations. Aurum metallicum. This has been very useful for some of our customers struggling with depression. Can you elaborate on this remedy?

Melissa Crenshaw:

I can. Aurum metallicum is a beautiful remedy and it's a big one. Aurum metallicum is really great for depression, especially in men. It can be used for women but just like Sepia is more of a female remedy, it can be used in men; Aurum metallicum is more for men, but can be used in women. One thing I also wanted want to just make sure that people understand is that I'm going to go over a list of symptoms that would call for Aurum metallicum, but that doesn't mean that you have to have ALL of those and so if I read one or two and you think,"Oh, I don't do that!" Don't dismiss it because if you have a lot of the things, then it could be very helpful. Aurum metallicum expects too much of themselves. They set goals for themselves and then once they reach the goal they keep moving the goalposts. They keep moving it further and further so that when they reach the goal... they tend to not be good enough for themselves. People are attracted to Aurum metallicum in a good way, not just not just physical attraction, but people like them. They're attracted to them. You know what Aurum metallicum is? It's gold and people are attracted to gold. It's beautiful and it's and it's precious, and it's the same way with the Aurum metallicum person who may be suffer from depression. People love them and want to be around them because they're so giving and they're so kind and they're often very reserved. Aurum metallicum people are natural artists and athletes and whatever they decide to do, they're good at it. They're these people that are just naturally good at everything. They are usually fine until someone else moves those goalposts for them. They keep moving the goalposts for themselves, but when somebody else does it... Say somebody is in school and the teacher says,"Oh, I think you can do more than this," and the teachers move the goalposts or the spouse expects more of them, that's when they start to lose it and they don't do well. Then the Aurum metallicum person becomes more and more stressed and irritable as they get stretched more so if somebody else is stretching them, they're getting more stressed, more irritable, and they become an insomniac(they may - remember, these are all possibities). Sometimes they'll have explosive anger followed by terrible remorse, you know they explode in anger and then they just apologize profusely. Then they start to look inwards. So these are kind of the phases when it's going deeper and deeper. If you catch it early enough then you can treat it with the Aurum metallicum but as they go deeper and deeper into the Aurum metallicum state, they start to look inward, more and more, until things just get darker and darker and until they're sometimes suicidal. They become hopeless. If suicide is part of the picture, they don't just talk about it or plan it, they have things to do it with so they're serious. They're often soothed by music so music is something they really love and can really help calm them down and help them feel better. The Aurum metallicum depression looks kind of like that.

Kari Wagner:

Okay. That is such valuable information. Like I said, that's another one that is, unfortunately, popular at the store but we have so much going on this year, everybody does that it's been able to help a lot of people. And for my last question, Melissa, I would just like to ask this of you because we're often asked how these remedies work and I know that's a really deep question in itself to unpack during a short interview, but would you be able to give our viewers just a brief understanding of how these remedies would work in comparison to an antidepressant and just explain how they could learn more?

Melissa Crenshaw:

Okay. Antidepressants - what do they do? When you take the medication, they release, chemicals in the brain to help you feel better. Homeopathy is the principle of like cures like and so homeopathy goes in as the natural medicine and stimulates your body to actually make serotonin, or balance the hormones, so that's what Sepia is really good at. So a lot of people know about the gut-brain connection. When the gut is damaged, oftentimes the mind is unwell. So homeopathy can go in and heal the gut. The antidepressants are manmade chemicals that go in and change the way you think and, yes, it can help you feel better, but when you stop taking that antidepressant what happens?

Kari Wagner:

You go right back.

Melissa Crenshaw:

Yeah, so homeopathy actually uproots the condition so that you don't have to take the homeopathic medicines anymore. Just like it happened with me. We know there are hundreds of scientific studies that I can share a link to but we know that homeopathy works because we've seen it, over, and over, and over again. For hundreds of years we've seen people come out of anxiety and depression and all kinds of acute and chronic conditions just with the use of homeopathy so when I started using homeopathy because I had anxiety and depression, and I was on a medication, and I liked it. It made me feel better but when I learned that there was a better way that could actually uproot it that wouldn't have long-term side effects, I wanted to give it a try and it worked and I haven't looked back.

Kari Wagner:

Right. And I can't live without Ignatia. I don't take it every day or take it twice a day now. I used to take it twice a day for a little while, but then it became a once-in-a-while thing and it's every once in a great while now just as needed and so that's what I love is that you're not dependent upon these for the rest of your life.

Melissa Crenshaw:

That's right and that's what I love about it too. Yeah, it's beautiful.

Kari Wagner:

I love the way you explained that and I appreciate that so much. To our viewers, I know if you're still watching we know you have a desire to learn more about these remedies and we just encourage you to follow the links that Melissa posts. Keep researching.
