I feel like two seconds ago, we were just recording how to get ready for summer and all that fun stuff. Since it's back to school time, we thought it would be good to do a quick podcast on how you can prepare for the things that come up when you go back to school. This might even be the first year since Covid that they're starting again full time in school.

All right. Back to school! We don't know - are you going back to school full time? Are you going to be in there? Are you going to have to wear a mask?

Exactly. We've homeschooled for 12 years and we're going to go to a co-op, so I'm going to be using these things. Maybe you have kids that are going to preschool or starting soon. All of this information today hopefully can be helpful wherever you are on that journey.

I always have questions for you before you even start. The first thing that came to my mind after the pandemic and all of these things was anxiety. I think about it because several people in my life have kids dealing with anxiety right now, and it presents in a lot of different ways. One has tummy aches all the time. One of them would go to school and feel sick a lot during the day. She would be nauseous and maybe even throw up at school and be coming home often. Sometimes I've noticed in my little boys, one of them in particular, tends to be aggressive and throws more tantrums or acts out more when he is feeling anxiety about things. I know that you have anxiety remedies, so maybe that's a good place to start.

Gosh, you're so right about how it can present in so many different ways. We can treat the way it's presenting, but overall for anxiety, use Ignatia. Ignatia is a great place to start for people of all ages. Ignatia is great for anxiety and can be given morning and night, or it can be given as needed.

Can you do both? Morning and night, and send them to school with some to take as they need it?

You could, but I have a better idea. If you're going to do Ignatia morning and night,  that's designed to uproot the anxiety so that they don't have anxiety going to school in the very near future. Worry is Ignatia, but if they have anticipatory anxiety and can't sleep at night, then that is Gelsemium. This is a protocol, and I honestly don't know who wrote this protocol. I'm gonna just have to say it was either the Banerjis or Joette Calabrese or I learned it in college. The protocol is Gelsemium 30c, twice a day, alternating with Kali Phos 6c, twice a day. This is for the fear before going to do something, and you'd start this anxiety protocol when the anxiety starts. Let's say it's the night before the first day of school and your son comes to you and says he's nervous. He probably won't say he's nervous, but he's gonna say he has a tummy ache or all the other ways that it can present. You can start giving us protocol at that time.

Okay, so 6c. What about 6x? I get that question a lot. Are they interchangeable?

No. "C" is the centesimal scale, so that's diluted to the 100th power. "X" is diluted to the 10th power, so they're different. If you can't find Kali Phos 6c, then you could use 3x.

Yes! We are posting this early enough, hopefully, that you can plan ahead and have these things on hand. That's a good question about the Kali Phos. Another one that I want to give you is called the "Triple A" combo. This is something I learned in college. It's Ambra Grisea 30c mixed with Anacardium Orientale 30c mixed with Argentum Nitricum 30c. This can be given every one to 12 hours or as needed for any kind of anxiety. This would not be in addition to the anticipatory, this would be a true either/or. Do one or the other. At the same time, you can be doing Ignatia once or twice a day.

Yes, that's right. Ignatia can work well alone and you might not do anything else. In the beginning, though, while the anxiety is being uprooted, you might need some acute (SOS) or as needed help in the meantime, so you could use one of those protocols.

Did you mention the potency of Ignatia already and I missed it?

You could use 30 or 200. I always start with 200, and if you find that that is just too much, then back down to 30.

Okay. Would you say back down to 30 before you'd say use 200 less frequently? Maybe once a day instead of twice?

Yes, you could just reduce the frequency.

Okay, now what about something to send them to school with? I know the remedies do work, but even for a placebo effect so they feel better equipped when they feel nervous.

I love what you're saying because when kids have the remedy in hand, then they do feel more confident that they have some kind of control. Gelsemium 30c by itself can be beautiful. You can mix these remedies into a small, four-ounce water bottle and remind them not to drink it for lunch. Let them know to drink this one just if you start to feel nervous. Just tell them to take a sip of this, swish it around and swallow it.

Okay, yeah, that's good. Then they're not carrying around these little medicine bottles that you know they'll lose or that someone will have a problem with!

Tight. So what can we do to prevent any viruses or other sickness? How can we how can you start to help your children be healthier?

Right? I'm going to tell you what, last fall, we did this protocol I'm about to share, and we didn't get sick. We had a little slight sore throat, and a little cough one time, nothing big. We didn't get sick last year like we usually do.

I've never done anything prophylactically. We're going to start going to church again regularly when we move and go to little classes there and stuff. I have one going into Kindergarten, but we're going to homeschool.

Oh, so, so fun. I'm excited for you. I had my kids do this prophylactic protocol that I'm getting ready to share before they went to summer camp, just because they were going to be sharing a room with 15 other kids. I was like, y'all are getting this! Thuja 30c is a great prophylactic for viruses. You would use this once a day for seven days, then once a week for three weeks. This protocol and a lot of other information about viruses is found in my Viruses Guide, which is free on my website. Okay, so you did it this summer? And do you do that again in January when flu season is peaking? I think you've mentioned that before.

Yes. I would recommend you run it before they start going to whatever groups they're going to go to. Then yes, do it again around January or February.

What if you do this leading up to going back to school, and then they go to school, or they go hang out with a friend and you hear about this stomach bug going around or something else... would it be okay to do that protocol again? How close together can you do this protocol?

Melissa Crenshaw  13:04

I don't have a definitive answer on how close together you can do it, but I wouldn't worry if a stomach virus started going around. I just wouldn't worry about it at all, and if they started having symptoms, then treat whatever comes up.

So it stays active in their system for a while!

Yes. Homeopathy stays in your system for months and months.

So, another prophylactic remedy is Gelsemium 30c. You could do Gelsemium 30c weekly, when the flu outbreak is distant. You might be hearing about it in other cities or other states, but it is not quite in your community. You don't personally know people. You're seeing people on Facebook post, but they don't live near you. So that'll be Gelsemium 30c weekly - just one time a week. When it gets into your community and you start knowing people that are getting sick, you can begin using it daily for seven days, then twice weekly until the threat passes. That's a flu protocol for prevention, and then you can also use Gelsemium if you get the flu.

That's what I use it every time for the flu. It's great for me. You would do that in place of Thuja though, right?

That's right. I wouldn't do both, but just choose one. Another great prophylactic I've heard about but never used myself is Influenzinum 30. What I would do is order it straight from Boiron, the company, because when they send you the tube, they're going to send you specific instructions telling you exactly how to take it. Influenzinum is made from the flu strain of that year. They use whatever flu strain is going around that year and they make it from that.

So that doesn't necessarily expire, but you just want to get a new one every year because it's the most recent strain?

That's right. When it comes in the mail, it's not gonna have the date on it, so I always write the year on it. I've ordered them several times and haven't used them, but I still hae all of them.

It's interesting that Influenzinum has different potencies because it's a nosode. Is that what you call it?

You're right. Yes, it is.

I didn't know that when I bought it. They had like a clearance section at a health store and Influenzinum 9c was there, so I bought it. I still have it!

I was going to say that I don't throw any remedies away because it might do something. You know, if you read Influenzinum in the Materia Medica, maybe it could treat a current flu if you have those symptoms.

Okay, so what happens when they get sick? We've talked about prevention, but what are some good remedies to have on hand for when they do get sick?

Melissa Crenshaw  18:18

Well, I just thought about what if people don't know what prophylactic means? You know I'm all about definitions! Prophylaxis is action taken to prevent disease. So yes, everything that we just talked about is to prevent. We're releasing this recording in time for you to prepare, so I highly recommend that you get Aconite, Aconitum Napellus, 200c and Bryonia Alba 200c. You can give those both at the same time at the first sign of any cold, cough, flu, any sore throat, anything that comes up. At the very first sign, give those two together, at the same time in the mouth, dry. If it's the very first sign, then it's not very severe yet. Maybe you notice a little scratchy, sore throat or something, then you take the remedies and you're going to wait. Wait 12 hours or so. If you progressively are getting worse, then you're going to take it more often. What I do is I'll take it right when I feel anything. The next day, I might take it again if there are lingering symptoms. You meet the intensity of the condition with the frequency of dosing, so if it's just a little sore throat and you think you might be getting sick, just take it one time and wait. Be patient and let the remedies work. You don't have to be doing something.

Okay, well want to add in some other prophylactic things if that just means taking steps to prevent disease. We have talked about in another podcast, some other things you can be doing for your health are being outside, being in the sun, eating good food, being happy! Don't be negative.

I have used Aconite and Bryonia a lot since you've suggested them, and for a lot of different things. It's worked really well.

It's my favorite. It's what I'm stuck on. It's what I go to every time. Past that, you're going to treat whatever comes up. If it does continue to progress after the Aconite and Bryonia, go back and listen to some of the other podcasts that I have to help you treat the new symptoms. I have one on cold, cough, and flu, and I think we talk about fevers in one of them. Look at the blog, take a class - the classes are full protocols. The classes will give practical protocols - ones that you will use. I am not the example of taking good notes, so don't do what I do. I just look back at the book all the time, and I can't tell you how often I use that thing! You can also do Melissa's acute consults if you need help. If you're not totally confident, even if you have the protocol in the book, if you've taken a course or if you haven't, the consults are great options. I did several of them as I was learning to either reiterate what I had come up with or what I was doing, or to help me think through other things or to adjust as the sickness progressed. That was hugely helpful in my confidence level. Knowing that I have somebody who does know what they're doing really helped me so much.

Yes! Through that process, you'll learn, and you'll know what to do next time so you don't have to do another acute consult. The question that I get often is in class, is how do I know when to get help? The answer is - anytime that you're unsure. If you don't know what to do, if you've thrown everything at it and nothing's happening. If you are about to resort to other methods that you didn't want to resort to, then do an acute consult. And I enjoy it.

It also takes time to learn to not freak out when you or your kid is sick. So, speaking of anxiety, you can take some Ignatia. You always say in class to take some Ignatia, and then try to think straight. Another perk to the classes is that you can join our Facebook group that has a ton of other women in there. I started doing the acute console several times with you, and now that I'm a lot more confident at this point but really am not thinking straight or don't really know what to do, I post in there. A lot of other people who are thinking more clearly than me can remind me of some things I might know already, or they can give me other suggestions if something's not working. Even if they only remind me to give it four doses and be patient, it's a good reminder when I'm tired or nervous.

Yes. The men and women in there are so kind and encouraging to each other and helpful and when you post in there. They're so generous with their time to come and answer questions. There's nothing political in there or anything but homeopathy. Occasionally, I feel the Lord lay an encouraging word on my heart, so I'll go in there and encourage, but that's it.

Know that you have the tools. Start preparing and order some remedies if you don't already have them. Get some things in your notes. Just be ready, and you can do this.
