Welcome back to Homeopathy at Home with Melissa. Hey, Melissa.
Speaker 2:Hey Brie, I am excited to talk about Calc Carb, calcaria Carbonica Materia Medica Monday.
Speaker 1:We love this remedy, use it for so many different things, so this should be a really good one. I know I've actually I use it a lot, but there's so much going on with it that I think it's going to be a even. I'll learn a lot today, so we always love Materia Medica. Mondays Kick us off. Tell us about Calc.
Speaker 2:Carb? Yeah, so Calc Carb is the main or number one constitutional remedy. So I get the question a lot how do you find your constitutional remedy and how do you take it? So I will just say that your constitutional remedy is the goal. To get back to that's. You only take your constitutional remedy when you are in good health, so when you have issues, when you have trouble. Now let me let me say it this way Calcarb can be used acutely, just not very often. I don't use Calcarb very often acutely. Sometimes I will, it depends on the person or the case. But when you're looking for your constitutional remedy that's what you were born with that's when you're at your healthiest state state and then you take your constitutional remedy to help you stay healthy, to maintain.
Speaker 2:There is going to be a course on constitutional prescribing sometime in the near future. So look for that. And you know the near future from when we're recording this. So if you're one of those that you know listens, way in the future, it might already be out and you can look for that on my website. So were you going to say?
Speaker 1:something I think it might be helpful to me to add some clarity to you. Don't want to take it unless you're at your original state or until you're at your healthy state, because Calcarb is often used in chronic care for maybe, people who aren't Calcarb people or like constitutional Calcarb people, or is that okay?
Speaker 2:Good, good, good. Yes, so Calcarb is a main remedy for uprooting allergies. So the person may or may not be a Calc carb constitution and we're using calc carb my favorite is 30c daily to uproot allergies right, so they do have symptoms. They're not at their. They're not at their healthiest state. So, um, if this sounds confusing right now, you might. Here's the thing what we're going to do tonight is read the keynotes of Calc Carb and if this, if you fit this picture right now and you're having a lot of these things right now you can use it right now. So right now, we're not teaching constitutional care Really good, thank you for bringing that up. Yeah, cause I definitely don't want to confuse people.
Speaker 1:Yeah Well, and I mean, I think that's the nature of homeopathy you can sometimes feel like we're so confusing. So I know it might be, but keep an eye out for the constitutional prescribing. That is separate. So tonight's just a normal material medical Monday. Think of kelp carb as another remedy to use when you have these symptoms that we're going to talk about.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm just going to go through Bree. I'm just going to go through about half of our notes and then I'll just let you pick up the last half. Does that sound good?
Speaker 1:Perfect.
Speaker 2:All right. So, first of all, calc Carb is a slow-acting remedy, so there's nothing fast about homeopathy anyway. But if you could slow down homeopathy even more, I often will tell people homeopathy can feel like watching paint dry. So Calcarb is on the slowest end and that's not even to be discouraging, it's actually to encourage you that, hey, if you choose calcarb as a remedy, you're probably gonna be on it for a while, and I mean it could be six, nine, twelve, twenty four months. Um, that you could be on it as long as it's acting. So this is one of the most important remedies in the Materia Medica, along with sulfur and lycopodium. So. But calcarb is the exact opposite of sulfur and it's made from the middle of an oyster shell which is in the sea right. The oyster shell is sitting at the bottom of the sea, it's in the water, it's stuck, it's immobile against the rock. So when we think about where calc carb comes from, then, and and what the oyster kind of is and does, does that tells you a little bit about the person that might need Calcarb. So they're grounded, they're earthed, stuck, set, set in their ways, kind of like an oyster. So this Calcarb address is the most basic, fundamental level of life. The Calcarb person has the need for food safety, clothing, protection, security and not much more. They are very basic, like homebody Give me what I need, let me stay home. And you know, the Calcarb wife just wants to cook and clean and serve her family. She doesn't need extravagance, she doesn't need vacations, she doesn't need all the things.
Speaker 2:From the child moving into adulthood is the home builder, traditional, grounded person who wants to provide a secure, safe environment for their family and for themselves. So Calcarb is the salt of the earth. They are wonderful, solid, down-to-earth, practical people who are usually spiritual and the negative aspect of that is somebody who's too stuck, inflexible, unable to change. So we, so Calcarb brings that balance. If you're too stuck, inflexible and unable to change, calcarb can bring you back to your balanced state of practical, solid, down-to-earth homebody. There's nothing wrong being a homebody as long as you can go somewhere when it's necessary, right? So Calcarb is usually or could be the pudgy, overweight, chilly person. The child is a representative of the inside of the oyster. So squishy, squishy newborn child, soft and rubbery and squishy and mucousy. Mucousy is not cute, but that's part of their picture usually.
Speaker 1:That reminds me of Lennon I do remember that baby not like every chubby baby is, but just yeah.
Speaker 2:But, and I wish I could, I wish I could show you what I mean. So when I, long before I started homeopathy, I worked in childcare centers and I remember um and I worked in the infant room and I remember this infant um who came to us maybe she was probably about four or five months old, so at the age where you could hold her on your hip right, you couldn't hold her on your hip. She was so like I remember calling her squishy Like she couldn't. She didn't, she couldn't like sit on your hip.
Speaker 1:So is that actually like a low muscle tone thing for physically low muscle tone? Okay?
Speaker 2:Yeah. And so I don't mean that the the calc carb um baby has to have low muscle tone, but they could. So if they do have really low tone then they might need Calcarb to help pull them, you know, get back to balance. But every time I describe this part I think of that baby and I wish I could remember her name. She was so beautiful. And so the Calcarb person needs to develop their inner structure, their inner strength, the calcification that needs to take place for strong teeth, nails and bones. So they need more inner strength. Calc carb provides the ability to assimilate so they can develop a strong, healthy bodily structure.
Speaker 2:The calc carb person might, on the other end, they might be as strong as an ox and at their healthiest state they are strong, they live long, they're happy, content, secure, slow and steady Calcarb has a really hard time with a fast-paced change or fast-paced life. I would say they're opposite of nux vomica in that. In that sense, you know, nux vomica is doing too much and cow carbs like let's be still, let's. Let's think about this um decision for eight months where I'm like, decided. You know they like the country life, slow and steady. Calcarb can strengthen you enough to do all the business, busyness, busyness and even though you may not like it, you could do it. So if you can't live in the country slow and steady, and you know like you like trying to think of, so I watch A Little House on the Prairie a lot and you know, just looking at the times back then, where you know Ma, she was busy but it was still slow and you know she was at home and so if you can't actually live that kind of life and you have things you have to do but you don't like to be busy, calccard can strengthen you enough so that you can get the stuff done that you need to get done. Right.
Speaker 2:But the Cal card person is not likely going to be that Nux Vomica, um, um, not just motivated but ambitious. They're not ambitious, yeah, yeah. So this is just rock bottom protective shell of the oyster. So so if you think about the shell of the oyster of the oyster, so so if you think about the shell of the oyster, um, it's really hard and it protects the oyster. Inside is soft and squishy and so, um, the, the, the calc carb person needs strength. Um, sometimes there's a pearl in there, right In that oyster shell, and people right in that oyster shell and people, people think that calc carb, people are just amazing. Calc carb you see that pearl in them.
Speaker 2:Um, they keep everything in order. They're the probably the glue that holds the family together. Um, often calc carb can work too hard or push themselves too hard and when they do that, they need to be brought back into balance, right, because they're not thriving in that If they're working too hard and pushing themselves too hard, they're not thriving and it might be because they had too much responsibility placed on them at an early age. So you think about, um, I know I've said this plenty of times on other podcast episodes and I never, ever want to sound condescending or putting down large families.
Speaker 2:I'm not doing that, but I've seen some large families where the older usually girl in the family, but can be a guy too is, I mean, but as part of being in a large family, you all work and you all help, but often they're given a lot of responsibility early on because you know there's lots of little kids and they need mom. Mom needs their help. Um, the cow car person can do all things, all the things willingly, but they must take the responsibility. So they have a fear of infection and disease. They can be obstinate and stubborn. They like to ponder a lot of things, so again they're just like thinking about.
Speaker 2:You know all the things forever where I'm like decide you know, so, um it the CalCard person, it feels like you must do it. Well, the Cal, the CalCard person, must do it in their time and do it their way. And if they're pushed, they're stubborn and they shut down. And if they're pushed, they're stubborn and they shut down, so they get really uncomfortable being observed because they fear making a mistake. They can be quite self-conscious and um calc car people can definitely have negative effects from vaccines. Um, why don't you take it from there, brie?
Speaker 1:yeah, okay. So the kelp car person may have a fear of heights and similar, or the humpty dumpty fell off the wall and broke. Is that because he was scared of heights or he was just like weak? Why'd Humpty?
Speaker 2:fall. Well, I don't know why he fell, but, like you know, he broke because he was an egg and yeah, he was weak, yeah, he's weak.
Speaker 1:Yeah, the weakness. His egg shell was not very strong. Um, this could be a baby. Who's fontanelle, fontanelle? Why does that look so weird to me? That their soft spot and their um on their head closes slowly or later.
Speaker 1:Maybe a sweaty child or baby. Their back of their head might sweat, especially at night. These are things I do hear often actually, of little babies their sweaty heads, the back of their head sweats. It may be a person who's, when you shake their hand, their hand is moist and sweaty, which I know it kind of sounds gross, but I mean, we've all been there. Or the person with the sweaty hand. Maybe that's probably worse. Also, maybe you have sweaty feet, kalkar.
Speaker 1:People can have problems with sour foods and with milk. So they might crave milk but it's not good for them, it doesn't sit well with them, or they don't feel well when they drink it but they want it, and then, on the other hand, they might have a big aversion to milk. So milk is just a big issue. They either are better from milk or worse from milk. Milk makes them excessively mucusy, so again, there's lots of mucus there. Calc FOS has an issue with mother's milk, so that's just a little side thing that's interesting. So Calc F floss, specifically with mother's milk.
Speaker 1:Calc carb has problems with the glands. They swell. So if you have somebody with consistently swollen I mean lymph nodes, tonsils I've had people with armpits, like glands under there swelling they may have catarrh in inner ears. So again, that excess mucus buildup can be nose, ears, sinuses, throat lots of mucus. Calc carb is often chilly so they might feel cold. Humor gets them out of a bad mood easily. They just want to be happy. They want just enough to be happy. They're not greedy. They may over time look weather beaten. They might have the tiny wrinkles on their face, the crinkles, the laugh lines. So I love the descriptions when I know exactly what that means weather-beaten, I can picture it when it's kind of dry, you can see the deep wrinkles.
Speaker 1:They may have a fear of bugs and mice and infestations, things that can infest, and a fear of illness in general. I know we mentioned that before. So, fear of disease and illness. They might be afraid that they'll break down under stress, so like overwhelmed kind of how you mentioned before that it's too much. But they don't. They can do it, but they might have that fear that they just can't handle it. Um, they don't want people to see them break down, they don't want to let people down. So they almost always pull it together and they manage the things. They're very resilient and strong, um, which is why I think you said earlier, they look like they have it all together but internally that fear of disappointing people is big.
Speaker 1:They might crave sweets and eggs, especially like a soft boiled egg with salt on it, things like mashed potatoes, pasta, toast and butter. Think bland foods. I heard this somebody say the other day beige food, like easy food, you know, like it doesn't have color, but it doesn't mean it doesn't have flavor, it's just soft, bland. I mean they're just kind of boring. They might love ice cream and milk chocolate but have an aversion to fatty or slimy food. They might react badly to coffee. Calc carb is actually better from constipation, so that slow assimilation calc carb is slow, so any nourishment left in there has time, which is interesting. I don't know that there's any other any other time I've heard somebody say they're better from constipation.
Speaker 2:So, you know, I wonder if that's because of our society. We are so focused on pooping two or three times every single day. You have to, you have to, you have to, and so everybody just thinks I have to and if I'm not, then I'm not healthy and then I've got toxins in my body and I'm full of toxins and. But you know, if we really listen to our bodies and you're listening to this and you're like you know what I actually don't feel bad when I don't have a bowel movement every single day. You know, and maybe if you really pay attention to your body, you might be like, huh, I actually overall feel better when I go every other day. We are so focused as a society on going two or three times a day.
Speaker 1:Yeah, we just kind of swing the pendulum all over. That's what happens. It just goes, moves around. It has to go extreme. That is a good point though, um, because sometimes you do hear that they're not going daily, but they're not symptomatic Like they're, it's okay with their body, um.
Speaker 1:So along those lines, diarrhea for the calc carb person makes them feel aggravated and nervous. I mean, probably for most people, but especially a calc carb person, they may develop cramps at night if they don't have the ability to assimilate calcium and magnesium. So calc carb can bring balance to prevent the cramps. They may have arthritis. This can be great for people with arthritis, osteoporosis, musculoskeletal problems. So again, that calcium, that strong like the oyster shell, that can bring balance there.
Speaker 1:It's one of the main remedies, or the main remedy for uterine fibroids. So if their periods are late and excessively heavy and there are fibroids present or's the cause, kalkar is a great option. It's also good for hormones in general. So keep it in mind for that. Kalkar might have nails fingernails that crack and break and split easily. They're very sensitive to the news. They don't like to watch and see cruel things or violence in the world. They just want their security, their peace and quiet, tranquil lives. They may have nightmares because of either horrible things they've seen or witnessed or partly why they don't want to watch the news because those things can bother them really deeply. Yep, those are some Calcarb things, I know. I mean I'm sure there are a lot more that we haven't even touched on so big.
Speaker 2:Yeah. So again, my favorite thing to do with Calcarb um is 30 C daily, but if you're really sensitive to remedies you could go with 60 daily, you know, and then you could work your way up 12 C, 30 C. You can use 200 C. I just don't usually start there.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I really like. Something I learned from you really early on was using calc carb just for the slow strengthening of the immune system in general. So maybe you're a person who doesn't fit all that, but I I have seen it do really great things for people who get sick all the time or like they're low vitality. They just don't have that strong shell you know and um season allergies of all kinds or stuff like that. Really, I've. It has been such a game changer remedy for so many people that I love it. I've. I actually don't know that I've ever seen it do anything negative or aggravate. Maybe that's just. I obviously have limited experience, but it's such a good remedy that's just, I obviously have limited experience, but it's such a good remedy.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it is. I've seen it uproot egg allergies, seasonal hay fever, allergies, you know. Yeah, like you said, the kids that get sick all the time. Usually within eight to 12 weeks, when we do our first follow-up they're like they have the mom's, like he hasn't been sick at all. This is crazy, you know so. So, even though Calc Carb is a slow acting remedy, in that sense it can work pretty fast to help, you know, prevent you, prevent the child from getting sick. So often we're never. Our goal is never to prevent sickness forever.
Speaker 1:It's almost like it just creates a steadiness. Yes, and obviously all remedies can bring balance in that regard as well, but there is just a security, a steadiness in a person that's developed over time.
Speaker 2:With Calcarb I've also seen Calcarb bring back periods that were so amenorrhea. You know that shouldn't be gone. You shouldn't be in menopause, um, and you know, for whatever reason it stopped and so the Calcarb can bring it back. Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 1:I was going to stop. Um, it's a really big remedy. I am looking forward to the constitutional remedy course, so keep your eyes out for that, because I think that will go even deeper into other ways that you can use it. But hope you enjoyed this.
Speaker 2:Yeah, calcarb is amazing, so try it if you need it. And um, leave us a comment. You know, tell us how. How has Calcarb helped you or your family? We'd love to hear your um your comments in the in the the thing. The comments below. Thanks,
