Nausea that won’t quit has a way of hijacking joy, sleep, and every meal plan. We’re pulling the curtain back on what actually drives “morning” sickness—and how to find real relief with safe homeopathy, steady nutrition, and smart daily habits that work in the real world. From hormonal surges to blood sugar swings after a long night’s fast, we map the common traps and the simple moves that flip the script.
We walk through a clear, symptom-matching guide to top remedies. Nux vomica fits the irritable, smell-sensitive mornings; Ipecac helps when vomiting doesn’t ease the nausea; Cocculus shines for exhaustion-induced queasiness; Pulsatilla supports the tender, weepy moments in need of fresh air; Phosphorus matches the ice-cold drink cravings with quick regurgitation; Colchicum targets overpowering cooking odors; Symphoricarpus offers relief for hyperemesis when motion worsens everything; and Sepia, used with professional guidance, addresses deeper hormonal overwhelm. Alongside remedies, we share practical strategies: protein first and often, pairing with complex carbs to stabilize blood sugar, nightstand snacks to prevent that dawn crash, ginger support, cautious peppermint use, and replenishing B6, magnesium, and electrolytes.
You’ll also hear when to escalate care. If fluids won’t stay down, weight is dropping, dizziness spikes, or urine turns dark, it’s time for IV hydration and targeted help. No guilt—just a plan that gets your head above water so you can layer remedies and food back in. Our goal is simple: help you decode your exact pattern and build a routine that brings steady relief, reduces overwhelm, and restores confidence during early pregnancy.

Setting The Stage: Morning Sickness
SPEAKER_00Welcome back to Homeopathy at home with Melissa. Hey Melissa.
SPEAKER_01Hey Brie. Today we are jumping into a topic that touches a lot of women. Um sometimes lightly, sometimes intensely. And that is morning sickness. So honestly, morning sickness isn't just in the morning. I don't know why.
SPEAKER_00Whoever came up with that term.
SPEAKER_01Right? Who named that? Um I mean it it was it can be worse for a lot of women in the morning. And I only felt bad in the morning. Nah, no, I didn't. No, I didn't. I felt bad all day. Um, I'm curious to know your story, Brie. If you were really sick, a little sick, just nauseous. What did you do with your kids?
SPEAKER_00Um, I I guess feel like it's a scale because if I were to say I was really sick and somebody who was really sick is like, no, you weren't, right? So on the scale of horribleness, I was only like a two or three out of ten and was nauseous all day. Um, but I didn't ever vomit. Yeah, I just would feel sometimes I wanted to because I thought maybe I would feel better after, and maybe I'm a weird person, but if if it will make me not nauseous, I bring it on. I don't care.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, most most people would rather go ahead and vomit to feel better, but not me. No.
SPEAKER_00I I know my sister's the same way. She will do anything. Anything anything in the world. So both of them, oh actually, all three, the third was not as bad. At that point, I had been using homeopathy and was doing cell salt. So I was also much more mindful of my diet. The other two, I learned some tricks, but I was for almost like 16 weeks with both.
SPEAKER_01So with my boys, I was just feel I just felt bad in the morning. Um with Grace, I felt bad every day, all day for the first. Yeah, I guess the whole first trimester. I feel like I felt I feel like second trimester, it was I was all good, but I couldn't eat or anything.
SPEAKER_00Um, and don't you remember people being like, you're almost there, it's only a few more weeks. And I want to be like, that feels like eternity.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Um, yeah, I couldn't eat anything, but I never vomited. So not everybody does. You know, if you're if you if you're not um, if you don't have any children yet or you're not pregnant yet, don't get scared and think that this is something that has to happen. It doesn't. And um, but even if it does, the good news is that homeopathy has some of the most effective fast-acting tools for nausea and pregnancy, and they're perfectly safe,
Personal Stories And Symptom Range
SPEAKER_01safe when used properly. So today we're going to talk through why morning sickness happens, what makes it better or worse, the top homeopathic remedies, hyperimesis support, natural nausea calming tools, and signs that you need extra help. So, Brie, tell our listeners what is morning sickness?
SPEAKER_00So we kind of covered it a little bit. Um, I mean, morning sickness is basically nausea that ranks, I mean, differently in severity for everyone, sometimes with vomiting, sometimes without vomiting. It typically does start around six or seven weeks gestation, and also typically tapers off and improves after the first trimester, although not all the time. Um, and so some of those symptoms obviously can be nausea and vomiting very often. There's food aversions involved. You might have a change in the saliva, meaning like excess or not very much, or even consistency and like taste in your mouth. Um, very sensitive to smell. That's common in pregnancy in general, but maybe more noticeable when you're nauseous because it creates, it can add to the nausea, um, fatigue, dizziness. Um, so there may be some vertigo, light-headed stuff going on, maybe irritability because you don't feel well. Um, I do know some occasions where this can really affect a woman's mood and feel like she's not herself, like toxic to her family, or um, can cause some depression and then loss of appetite. Obviously, if you're noxious, you don't really, most of the time you don't want to eat, although that can really help, which
What Morning Sickness Is And When It Starts
SPEAKER_00we'll probably talk about. So just know, I mean, everybody experiences this differently. Some people don't even have it. I do have friends who never had any, I mean, maybe slight here and there. And then I have friends who did have hypermesis and were very sick the entire pregnancy. So um there are several things that factor into why it does happen as well. I believe that one of the leading causes. Do we want to get into this right now? Yeah, go ahead. Okay. So this is not just my opinion. There is actual data on this stuff. I just tend to see the patterns of women. I know it's um hormonal. And this obviously your hormone surge in early pregnancy, HC HCG, and progesterone rise pretty dramatically at that beginning. And so a lot of people will say that's why it's more with girls. I don't believe that necessarily because I've seen it with boys too. But um, so huge hormonal shifts, blood sugar instability or low blood sugar, which I also believe and is likely why it's worse in the morning. You have the biggest gap in eating. And so, especially if you're not able to eat with the food aversions and all that, a lot of protein, good fat, long-lasting food, you're gonna wake up. That can affect your sleep, first of all, and then your blood sugar is super low, and then it starts you off in a place where you can't eat. So you kind of start in a deficient state every day. Um, that heightened sense of smell can automatically make you very averse to certain foods and nutrient deficiencies, which kind of goes back to that blood sugar. You're not eating as much, but also magnesium, B6, lack of protein that can all affect this. Um the constipation that often comes in early pregnancy because you have progesterone changes, your digestion slows down, so you may have some like gut sensitivities that you didn't have before. Stress and exhaustion can absolutely add to this. I know that it did for me, I think with each, what do you call it? Sub what's the one after? The next one. The next
Why It Happens: Hormones And Blood Sugar
SPEAKER_00yeah, what I'm called like subsequent. Subsequent. Subsequent. Thank you. I was really important that that was the word I said right there. With each pregnancy, it got worse, I think, because I was so tired, more tired than I was the last time. And then in homeopathic terms, the miasmatic tendency or that predisposition. This one is especially with something like hypermesis. You can see this in genetics if you go back. So, um, regardless of the cause, homeopathy can, I mean, dramatically help, whether that's you've never used it and it's just helping manage your symptoms. But very often, if you are using it ahead of time, that is when at least I think you could probably agree with that, we see the biggest effect is if you are kind of ahead of the game. But it can still help, even if you've never used remedies.
SPEAKER_01True. Um, I wonder if you know if this is a myth. So I've heard that when a woman is really sick with the morning sickness, she's less likely to have a miscarriage because her hormone, the progesterone, is so good or strong or do you think that's I mean, I do think that probably I think it is because it's just a sign that often pregnancy is going well.
SPEAKER_00That might, I mean, there's octopic pregnancies. So sometimes that can still lead to miscarriage. But yeah, you at least know that your hormones are strong. Right. And often that's a leading, I mean, leading factor to miscarriage that we know about now is low progesterone.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, they're probably there's probably a million reasons why we think we know, but low progesterone really can affect it too. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01So um, I want to talk to you about the top homeopathic remedies for morning sickness um that can actually bring relief. And number one that we pretty much always start with, and and of course, depending on um symptoms, is nox vomica. So nux vomica is the irritable, sensitive, nauseated woman. So Nux Vomica fits the woman who has nausea with irritability, nausea that's worse in the morning, food smells aggravate. Um, she wants to wants to eat but gets sick afterwards. She might also be constipated, overwhelmed, overstimulated. So if nausea comes with tension, frustration, or sleepless nights, Nux Vomica is amazing. Ipecac is another one great for um nausea not relieved by vomiting. So we always think of Ipecac when someone pregnant or not is nauseous, they vomit and it doesn't relieve the nausea, just like what you were saying earlier. Most people would like to just go ahead and get it over with to stop the nausea, but the Ipecac person is not relieved by by the vomiting. So this is for the persistent grinding nausea. So you'll think of um constant nausea, a lot of salivation. Vomiting does not bring relief, pale face aversion to all foods. This is a classic pregnancy nausea remedy. Sepia is one that absolutely can be used and it is a great remedy, but I don't want you to use it um without being under the care of a homeopath. So if your homeopath is telling you to take sepia early in pregnancy, you can trust that. But I don't want lay people to just go pop in sepia all the time, right? It just has to be used correctly, and it's it's wonderful. We've seen great success with sepia.
Miscarriage Myths And Hormone Clues
SPEAKER_01This is the worn-out hormonal nausea. Only use this one again under the care of a homeopath, and it's great for women who feel tired, overwhelmed, detached, worse in the morning, better after eating, and are sensitive to smells. So nausea often improves with movement when sepia fits. Culchicum is the smell sensitivity nausea. So this is the woman that has the nausea from food smells, especially cooking smells, worse for motion. She might have an extreme aversion to strong odors. And if opening the refrigerator makes her a gag, then culchicum is perfect. Um, this is another one that I really just started using probably a year or two ago to have have had great success with, and it's symphoricarpus. Symphoricarpus raismosis. And this is the hyperemesis remedy. This is a big one for severe nausea. And so this woman um has persistent vomiting, better lying perfectly still, worse with any motion, no appetite, constant nausea. This is often helpful when nothing else
Top Homeopathic Remedies Overview
SPEAKER_01works. So this woman might be weepy, clingy, wants support, craves fresh air. Nausea is worse in warm rooms. Um, she feels better after walking. And so this is great for this sweet, tender woman. Um and she would probably do well on pulsatilla. The next one is coculus. This is the nausea from fatigue or loss of sleep. So this is perfect for moms who are caring for other children. So this is the the mom whose nausea is uh uh from exhaustion. Um this is a motion sickness type of nausea. She's lightheaded, might have brain fog, and this is great when she's doing too much. The last one is phosphorus. So this is the nausea with thirst for ice cold drinks. So this woman wants um or she craves cold drinks. She might vomit soon after liquids. She is sensitive and emotional and might have a burning stomach. This is great. Phosphorus is great for the sensitive, empathetic woman. So here's your quick matching guide. Constant nausea is Ipicac, smell sensitivity is culchicum, irritable with nausea is Nux vomica, emotional and clingy is pulsatilla, exhaustion-induced nausea is coculus, severe vomiting is symphoricarpus, crazy ice cold drinks is phosphorus, and then hormonal overwhelm is sepia. So, Brie, share with our listeners some natural support strategies that they could use in addition to homeopathy.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, something that did come to mind, I kind of realized it this week when I was talking to one of my pregnant mamas. Um Boyron Highlands. I always do this. Whatever makes the box, that's Boyron. Boyron, yeah. They have motion calm and nausea calm. They are the same remedies, and they are two different blends, but both of them are they cover, I think there's four or five of these regular nausea remedies for pregnancy. So they're not the hormone, it's not sepia, there's not for severe nausea, and they're very low potency. So they may not, they might just take the edge off. But I'm only saying that to say if that's something quick you can grab if you're not feeling well and you really can find that somewhere close while you maybe order something more specific or you're working with a homeopath, that is maybe a great grab and go that you might want to try. Um, also, I would trust Amazon ordering that because it's in a box and not just a tube. So that's just a little um trick. And I found out those are the same remedies. So that's something too. But they have different names, so they probably, you know, people are looking for a specific thing. Some natural things that you can do. And a lot of this, honestly, I did, and it did help when I was diligent. Um, I know that what you want to say, I tried everything, or everybody says all these tips and tricks. Um, but there are a couple like tried and true. So try it and try to be diligent and give it a few days, but make sure you are eating protein first thing and often throughout the day. Prioritize protein. Um, and maybe even paired with like more complex carbs so that you have a long, you're digesting that food for a long time. You're not suddenly hungry. That sudden drop will cause that nausea. Even when you're not pregnant, that can happen. So um, lots of protein helps stabilize your blood sugar. Um, I know eggs are not something people want to wake up and eat, and it's weird to eat dinner for breakfast, but eat leftovers, eat your dinner leftovers for breakfast. And honestly, sometimes it like your body wants it so much it tastes great, and you don't even think about it. Um, keep snacks at your bedside, put them in your purse, keep them in your car, keep them on your counter. My husband used to take a whole sleeve. Now, bear with me, it wasn't crunchy, but like it was what I could stomach. It was salty and crackers with peanut butter. He would make me peanut butter sandwiches.
SPEAKER_01So sweet.
SPEAKER_00And he started doing like putting them in ziploc bags. He'd make a whole sleeve every night, put him in ziploc bags in my purse and my work thing and in my car, and I set a timer for 15 minutes on my phone and I had to eat one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I remember every 15 minutes. Linen, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like, and I was so annoyed, and I even kept him on my bedside table, which isn't great for your teeth long term. But I, you know, you wake up to pee at like three or four. I would eat one then because I figured out if I have something, then I don't wake up on a totally empty stomach.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think that's actually my biggest tip. E if you wake up in the middle of the night, have a snack and sleep without brushed teeth for a few hours. Yes. It was worth it to me. Yes, for sure. Um, fresh ginger or ginger lozenges or something, and peppermint tea are very helpful. Peppermint may antidote remedies you're taking. So maybe you could try it. They might still work. Um, vitamin B6. I did not try this, but I have heard really great things about this and magnesium along with good electrolytes. Try to avoid heavy, greasy food, even if you feel like that's what you crave, pair it with maybe something else. They can just slow your stomach emptying and you want to make sure you're eating, like prioritizing good food. And try to be outside, get fresh air, especially if um smells bother you. If you are in, I mean, having severe nausea, if you're in a situation where you cannot keep anything down, especially fluids, you're losing a lot of weight, you're dizzy often or fainting, your urine is really dark, um, you want to watch for dehydration. And there are things you can go in and get, even fluids. You don't even have to get medications right away. But I always think
Matching Remedies To Real Symptoms
SPEAKER_00information is a tool and you can decide from there. But honestly, sometimes fluids alone are really helpful. Or if you need to get some medication to get your head above the water and then you can start incorporating remedies. Just don't be afraid to do stuff. You're growing a little baby, you know. Prioritize being healthy and get help if you need it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I agree. So pregnancy nausea can be overwhelming for some, but it's not hopeless. So with homeopathy, nutrition, rest, and a little emotional support, you can find relief often quickly. So if you want help choosing your remedy or navigating more severe cases, I would love to walk with you through this. You can do, um, I would we have a pregnancy um labor and delivery consult, or maybe it's just called a pregnancy consult. And uh Brie has one. I don't think mine is up anymore. So whatever. You'll work with me or Brie if you do a pregnancy consult. Um, you can do the free 15-minute phone call and I can get you started with that. Um, I wouldn't do an acute, don't don't submit an acute form for this because it's not an acute condition. We need to we need to go deeper with this and walk you through it. Or if you want to get inside the inner healing circle, join.melissacrinshaw.com. You can ask questions in there. Uh the discussion is lively. I have there is going to be, uh it's not right there now, but maybe when by the time you listen to this, it'll be there. There is going to be pregnancy labor and delivery force in there.
